Hakone Japanese Garden Saratoga

Koi Pond (Click on image for other views)

Tucked near downtown Saratoga, Hakone has a bamboo garden, a zen garden, tea house as well as trails along the hillside.  It’s the oldest Japanese garden in the Western hemisphere. Sad that visiting hours are limited to 5 pm. March and April are the best times with flowers in full bloom.

The pond has Koi fish and turtles:

Hakone is also popular as a wedding spot.

Hakone “zen”

Pity the garden closes at 5 but the day can offer some zen moments. Just have a book, find a spot and immerse yourself in the proximity of the zen garden. Or just take a stroll around the hillside.
